If we look at articles from earlier this year, there are concerns that Trumps politics would cause issues with research funding.
I am not trying to make a political statement, but the US is huge, especially for scientific research, and changes in politics there, cause changes elsewhere. UK has proven that especially in terms of genetics research they are doing a lot. In the US there are tons of businesses that do research. Under trump they may have benefited from decreases in taxes, allowing more money into research. Or new companies may have found an opportunity under such conditions.
Initial Trump funding projects, focused on sustainable energy. This shows that Trumps politics take into account sustainability. But after looking further into it, that funding is intended for fossil fuels research. I am not sure how sustainable that may be. At least some scientists do get increases.
Other sciences get budget cuts. Cancer research funding is apparently receiving less money according to some recent news from this September. And from my understanding this is US funding. Therefore individual private companies may increase funding for their research.
There is a problem there though. Any private company doing research, does it just for the potential profits in 1, 2 or 10 years. Some research though, especially regarding healthcare, isn’t profitable, but absolutely necessary for public health.
